Hello,I have a bow that I shoot now that is a 29 inch draw, when I purchased the bow I didn`t use a release at that time.My question is now I use a Tru-Ball release could I go down to a 28.5 draw length.I`m asking because I have a chance to upgrade my bow this year with a used Hoyt that is a 28.5 draw length.Any input on this would be great.

Most bow shops can adjust about any bow. Don't buy a bow just because it is the draw lengh that you want. but in reguards to your question. I shoot with a truball. with a couple of different bows. When you draw the bow back the string should be touching your face in the same place that it was when you shot fingers. Your holding arm should have a slight bend to it, and then find an anchor point below your ear. for your draw hand. If the draw seems to long it probaly is most people are actually shooting a longer draw length than what actually fits them.

I hope I was of some help

The other thing you will notice switching from fingers to a release is you will need to move your rest and sight. When you shoot fingers your arrow comes out of the bow wobbling side to side. When you shoot a release your arrow travels flexing up and down.

If your draw length is 29" and you are planning on upgrading to a bow that is 28.5 inches I wouldnt have any problems setting you up in that situation . I would just add a 'd' loop or string loop to your string. You can really fine tune your draw length by adjusting these 'd' loops you use.  Plus by the d loop you would have less tear on your serving on your string when you attach your release to the d loop..  I also believe you can tighten up your groups by going to a d loop.  So yes  there would be no trouble upgrading to a 28.5 inch draw length.
