For those of you who are looking for a lousy weather rifle , keeping that blaser or sako in the case, look real hard at the ridiculously cheap m44 or m38 russian bolt action rifle.
Guys, it is ugly, it is a military rifle, and it is only about 70.00. I have shot quite a few, I own one, shooting military ball ammo this thing shoots inside 2 inches at 100 yards with iron sights, with hunting ammo drops to around 1.5 inch.
Believe it or not the action is easier to use and more fluid than the touted Mauser. This coming from a Mauser nut.
Two screws, take the gun down , clean it from the rain and mud, put it back together and zero will be pretty dead on.
Accessories out the yin yang, ammo available, performance between the 308 and 3006.
It is a 70.00 rifle! I lost the extra wood, barrel bands and bayonet and bayonet lug.
Rugged, eeyup. Practice ammo, about 15 cents a round bulk purchase.

Moisan nagant, yep, daughters boy friend picked one up. $80.00 for rifle and $5.00 worth of cleaning solvent to get cosmolene out of it! lol. He said it shoots very well also. Just the kind of butt ugly rifle to take out on a sleety/sloppy/rainy hunt and not worry about fancy finish or if it will shoot when it needs to. Regards, HB

Regards, HB I had picked up an old mauser and did not have anything recommended to clean out the cosmoline, I did have gallons of Coleman fuel (I use propane now) so what the heck, outside of course, on goes the fuel, straight away all , I and I mean all of the cosmoline melted away.
I noticed your photo, nice rifle and jacket. Someday I will actually order for Js Townsend for the appropriate accoutrements.
I am down in North Carolina, re-enactments and smokepole shoots all over the place.
